The Wing Chun Stance and footwork in a Fight
The Wing chun stance is not always used in a real fight. I is very common knowledge that one does not get into the Yee Jim Jim Yan Mah position, usually we have a frontal position with a 70 percent weight majority on the rear leg. This allows the front leg to react quickly at close range and in particular protect the groin region.
Also the more traditional stance may be used at longer range away from any dangerous kicks.
Stepping in from the stance is the most common method to close the distance and closing down the initial inertial generated from your enemy. Closing in quickly and using proper footwork is greatly misunderstood and many fail to see the advantage of this procedure.
Even if your enemy closes in timing an attack, just taking a step forward puts out of calculation where he will focus his energy.
Proper footwork also helps generating more power both in punches and defensive techniques.
Learning to move helps you not be a target and using proper footwork to destroy the enemies centre of balance is fundamental
